Recently, a UNICEF warning announced that an alarming 41 million people in Pakistan lack access to adequate toilets; forcing them especially women and children to defecate in public and making these groups most vulnerable to diseases and safety. Construction of the soak-pit toilets for the most deserving families who are unable to construct it by their own will be the priority of AWARD in 3 suffering districts Faisalabad, Muzaffargarh and Toba Tek Singh.

Challenge

Nearly 10 per cent of the population of Pakistan lacks access to sanitary toilets, enabling diseases like typhoid, polio, diarrhea, jaundice, and cholera to flourish. The women and children with no toilets venture outside the house in pitch darkness with a gas lamp everyday with no access to toilet for the rest of the day making them vulnerable and unsafe.

Long-Term Impact

Poor families including women and children will have access to the toilets in their homes and they don't have to wait for the early morning to rush to open. Through this intervention their health will considerably improve.
