The goal of Home Roots Foundation is to remove money as a barrier to receiving an education in Haiti with your help. Recent political unrest followed by the COVID-19 pandemic has made a bad situation dreadful. School directors have lamented that students are staying home because of inability to pay. With your help, we can pay tuition, fees, and uniforms for students. We can also provide books, pens, backpacks, tutoring and hope.

Challenge

The extreme poverty makes it difficult for parents to meet the cost of education in Haiti, where 80% of schools are private. The result is that too many students are excluded from the classroom. Many students get sent home for nonpayment and must repeat the school year when unable to come up with the money before exams. Many students are much older than their grade levels. Most schools struggle to pay the teachers. The result is only a 60% literacy rate.

Long-Term Impact

It is impossible to put a price tag on the value of education to human society. By investing in education, you are helping us lay the path for a child to become an informed and engaged adult more capable of helping Haiti and its myriad problems. Children will become educated young adults that become the future architects, engineers, entrepreneurs, nurses and physicians that Haiti desperately need to help reduce poverty and other ills that plaque society.
