Each day we wake up to more plastic on our beaches, less fish in our oceans and more buildings along our coastline. Our beautiful reefs and mangroves are depleting and it is the most vulnerable communities affected. We believe that ANYONE can make a difference, but first, they need to understand the problem. The Conservation Education Society provides FREE conservation education to Kenyan youths, providing them with the knowledge, tools, and skills to go forward and change our future!

Challenge

Shockingly, over 50% of students in our county do not continue to secondary school, making us one of the lowest-ranked counties for exam results in Kenya. Sadly, our communities tend to be predominately poor and natural-resource dependent, when compared to others. This is only intensified by the county having the most degraded reefs in Kenya, due to overfishing, pollution and high levels of tourism. Without intervention, both our community and environment will continue to get worse.

Long-Term Impact

Our programme works directly with students and teachers, enhancing their conservation knowledge and exposure. We aim to reach 250 students each year through our outreach visits, funded field trips and other conservation education programmes. We hope this in turn will help students academically, as well as provide teachers with the skills and knowledge to reach even more students.
