This project will provide high-quality education for 1000 street children from some of the poorest slum communities in Pune, India. These children are almost all first-generation learners and will benefit immensely from AIC's holistic approach to education and comprehensive support services.

Challenge

There are estimated to be more than 18 million street children in India. A significant number of these children come from Denotified (formerly "Criminal") Tribe communities. These communities face widespread discrimination, compounded by illiteracy, malnutrition, health and social problems stemming from extreme poverty. This project will allow children from these uniquely marginalized communities in Pune, India to stay off the streets and thrive in mainstream school environments.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide 100 first generation learners from historically marginalized communities with an excellent education and opportunities for holistic growth and development, which will put them on the path toward breaking the pervasive cycles of poverty in their slum communities.
