DescriptionWikitext

With this project we will benefit 250 indigenous children, adolescents and adults, from the Nuu Savi (Mixtec) ethnic group of La Montana of Guerrero, one of the poorest regions in southern Mexico, so they can have access to quality education, healthy food, better nutrition, better income through the sale of crafts, and improve the environment in their communities. Thus, manage to preserve their Mixtec legacy and have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Challenge

La Montana region in Guerrero, has some of the poorest communities in Mexico, which have been historically abandoned, leaving them in lag and poverty. In 2013, a natural disaster (two simultaneous hurricanes) caused damages in 69% of the state, mainly in La Montana. Dozens died, thousands of homes were affected, and a delay of approximately 20 years in social welfare was set. Since then, Amextra has worked in Metlatonoc and Cochoapa el Grande, to rebuild and help indigenous families to bloom.

Long-Term Impact

Artisan women will recognize the value in themselves and in their cultural legacy. Through the training and education of local leaders in topics such as education, food and artisan production, and marketing, the Mixtec families will take ownership of the project and they will achieve changes such as a reduction in violence, a reduction in educational lag, an increase in sources of work, which will be passed to the new generations and setting the foundations for a new stage of blooming.
