The School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA) is Afghanistan's first and only boarding school for girls, enrolling nearly 100 girls in grades pre-6 through 11. Our mission is to prepare girls to become the confident women who will lead their nation to a peaceful, prosperous future. This project will provide our students with the academic and personal support they need to thrive throughout the school year.

Challenge

The Taliban's return to power presents extraordinary unknowns in Afghanistan -- among them, the future of girls' education in a nation where the illiteracy rate among Afghan adolescent girls is already a staggering 63%, nearly double the rate for boys.

Long-Term Impact

At this time of profound change in Afghanistan, SOLA's mission remains constant. Our focused and intentional leadership curriculum prepares students to address many of the issues that act as barriers to women's visibility in Afghanistan, while simultaneously making female leadership a norm instead of a rarity.
