The aim of the project is to introduce a group of up to 45 women to professional sewing. We currently have10 sewing machines and one trainer. Women were trained over the course of 6-9 months, after which they have acquired a specific and employable skills. With this fundraiser Partners For Conservation aims to purchase 35 additional sewing machines and materials to enable women to work together towards their social economic inclusion and welfare. Please watch the video for more information.
Challenge
Unemployment in the Kinigi area is high. Uneducated women have no opportunities to find jobs or to provide for their families. Partners For Conservation has a training shop where women learned to master the art of sewing beautiful clothes and household materials over a course of 6 - 9 months. Currently there are 10 sewing machines and one trainer for 45 women. We want to expand by at least 35 sewing machines and sewing materials so all women can be involved in the group work and production.
Long-Term Impact
Besides providing rural and uneducated women with sewing materials, the project also aims to establish a women owned Community Based Organisation as an engine for their involvement in social-economic development plans and inspire other communities. The provided materials will help women start their sewing industry and grow their income from sales. It is expected that within two months, women will be able to generate enough income to move forward by covering the project costs.
