Our project is in the heart of a black township and provides opportunities to the youths to explore their creative side. From poetry, film writing, dancing and performance. Our inspired community leaders are providing a safe space for young creative people, often for the first time, to join forces with others to explore their passion for performing arts. This project helps keep young people off the streets and provides them with an escape from poverty and depression.

Challenge

Young people in the township either drop out of education early or attend under resourced schools so are never given the opportunity to explore their creative side. Many children within the community remain unemployed and become depressed or join gangs. The option to become a creative writer or performer is something that is not available to them in their lifetime. To be able to offer these opportunities is tough without a theatre or space, Currently our project has 100 youth members

Long-Term Impact

Long term we aim to fundraise $10,000 to fund a large shack theatre that will provide a safe space and engage around 150 community members to come and experience the create talent within their community for the first time. Providing this centre will allow our community project team to run productions that will generate an income and make this project sustainable long term within their own community.
