This project allows Global Kids to ensure that youth in underserved communities in NYC and DC have the knowledge, skills, experiences and values they need to succeed in school, participate effectively in the democratic process, and achieve leadership in their communities and globally. By helping our students to develop their leadership, communication, digital media, and critical thinking skills, they are motivated to graduate high school and attend college, and are empowered to make an impact.

Challenge

Youth from underserved communities in NYC and DC remain largely uninformed about issues impacting their cities, the nation and the world. Today's workplace requires a wide scope of competencies, from cross-cultural communications to digital literacy. The youth we serve face significant challenges such as poverty, drugs, and teen parenthood, and the schools they attend do not have access to programs that help them develop these vital skills.

Long-Term Impact

Long-term, Global Kids participants graduate from high school, enroll in college, and become leaders in their communities and the world at large. Last year, of over 200 seniors in our program, 99%graduated from high school, more than 30 points higher than the national average. 87% of those graduates attend college. In an alumni survey, 97% agreed that by being involved with GK, they increased their leadership skills, and 95% agreed that they increased their civic and community engagement.
